For Sandy's Victims

God of all compassion, who cares even if a single sparrow falls, we ask that the victims of hurricane Sandy might feel your closeness and not despair.  May your everpresent love give them encouragement; may your powerful Spirit give them courage and strength to persevere.  Help us to find ways that we, too, can reach out to help them to rebuild their lives.  Comfort those who have lost everything - especially loved ones through death.  Thus may your Spirit work through our lives.  In Jesus' Name we pray.  Amen.

God has Called Us Into Covenant

Creator of all the universe, whose name is to be praised throughout the earth, you have made us to have dominion over the work of your hands.  Praise be unto you!  We are thankful for ervery task and gift you have bestowed upon us.  We rejoice that through Christ you have called us into covenat with yourself.  Gratefully we acknowledge the gift of mind with which to plan and dream and create.  We praise you for the gift of hands with which to fashiion and toil, and above all the gift of soul in which to reflect your image.  In the name of Christ Jesus, we praise your most Holy Name.  Amen.

Fill Our Hearts With Copmpassion

Loving and Compassionate Father, you have blessed us with so many provisions in this life.  Give us the grace to be compassionate as you are for those who are not so blessed because those of  us who have plenty have not generously shared our blessings with others.  Make us aware of the thousands who are starving because of ignorance or superstition or because of the horrors of humankind's destructive activities.  Forgive us where we have tolerated filth and diease and overcrowded conditions to exist in our cities, when you desire to fill the earth and every life with beauty and strength.  So may our lives follow the example of our Lord Jesus Christ, who not only reached out to the sick and lame the poor and disinfranchised, but actually gave his life as a ransom for us all.  It's in his name that we do pray.  Amen.

Thanks For Life

O God of love, we thank you for life and love, for the mystery and majesty of existence, for the world of beautywhich surrounds us, for everything you have given us richly to enjoy; for health and vigor, for the love and care of home, for joys of friendship and for every loving gift.  We give you thanks!  We pray in the Name of jesus.  Amen.

Praise For God's Faithfulness and Lovingkindness

O God, whose splendor is revealed in all creation; we call to remembrance your faihtfulness and lovingkindness toward us and the world in which we live.  We praise you for the order and constancy of nature, for the beauty of the earth, sea and sky and for the bounty of the harvest.  We thank you that you have given us the warmth of human fellowship and the love of those intimately dear, our home blessings and the pure pleasures of life as we rejoice in you and in one another.  We are grateful for the trustfulness of little children, for the weak who need us, and for the strong who give us of their strength.  Bless all of us, O Lord, as we praise your holy name.  Through Jesus Christ, our Lord, we pray.  Amen.

Defend Us O Lord

Out of your unspeakable goodness, grace, and mercy, O Lord, defend us from all harm and danger of body and soul.  Preserve us from false and pernicious doctrine, from sickness and pain, from those calamities which so beset us in this life and from anguish of heart and loss of hope.  Show yourself to us that we may perservice in your service.  In Jesus' Name we do pray.  Amen.

Remake Us

God's Timeless Heartbeat

Lord of all holiness, when are overwhelmed by our weakness and failure, come to us as a friend of sinners.  When anxieties press in to suffocate the breath of the  Spirit, give us faith to breathe deeply the winds of heaven's promises.  When burdens oppress us, be like a shadow of a mighty rock in the heat of the desert.  If any of us are beset by doubt, let us reach out in mind and spirit until we feel your timeless heart beat near our hearts.  Let us not be afraid to follow the reasoning of faith when it outreaches the reasoning of our minds.  May radiance upon our faces be the sign that we have been filled with the radiance of your love.  In Jesus Name we pray.  Amen.

Teach Us The Secret Of An Open Heart

O God, who in divine wisdom gave us freedom to lock or unlock our heart's door; teach us the secret of an open heart.  Let our waiting for your knock become a reverent desire to please you as loving children.  When words fail us and our thoughts are barren, teach us to be still and know that you are the one and only God.  If our soul's image of you is uncertain, put your arms around us.  May we feel the strength of your majesty and the reassurance of redeeming love.  In Jesus name we pray.  Amen.

General Intercessons

O God: We humbly ask that you bless all your people.  Send down into our hearts the peace that passes all understanding, and grant us contentment in this life.  Give life to all of us and keep any deadly sin from prevailing against us.  Deliver all who are in trouble, for you are our God who gives hope to the hopeless and help to the helpless.  Give us your forgiveness for our many sins and refresh us with your spirit.  In Jesus' Name we pray.  Amen.

Creator God, who has wondrously made all things; we glory in the wonder of your creation!  Direct our eyes and our minds to see the work of your hands in the beauty, form, and bounty of nature.  All the myseries of the universe have been your doing since the very beginning.  Inspire us with reverance as we work to unfold the mysteries of our Spirit still at work cereating and sustaining all that is.  Keep us mindful that children and flowers, stars and atoms, and all that has life and form were fashioned by your hand, and declared to be prescious in your sight and full of all goodness. Praise For God's Laws In Creation

O Everlasting God, whose living Spirit has brought all things into being:  We glory in the wonder of your creation.  Your mind has given order to the universe; we bless you for your truths and laws, often hidden in unfathomable ways.  You have revealed your love in Jesus Christ; we praise you for your immeasurable goodness in your continual redemtion.  We come to you, our Father, needing your guidance and sustanence, your judgment and comfort.  We pray in the blessed Name of Jesus.  Amen.

Grant Us Your Peace

God of all grace:  Grant us your peace which passes all understanding, that the quieness that comes for communion with you and our neighbors may possess our souls.  We withdraw from the trials of this world for awhile when we come to you in prayer - help us to recover the strength that we have lost, and pass victoriously through all the troubles of this day and the days to come.  We ask it in the name of Jesus.  Amen.

For The Indwelling Spirit

Spirit of purity and grace: We thank you for your revelations of centuries past, and now ask that in our day you might guide us that we might not fear either the present or the future.  Let our daily tasks glow again with the light of your holy purpose, and give us some part in your abiding work of salvation.  Move us to speak and achieve the things that conform to your purposes, uniting us more closely to Jesus in whose name we offer this prayer.  Amen.

Make Us Righteous In Your Eyes

Forgive us, Lord, for allowing ourselves to be deluded into thinking we are not sinners and not responsible for the death of Christ on the cross!  We have so watered down the teachings of Jesus that we have allowed ourselves to be deceived into thinking we are not in need of your Grace and forgiveness.  Open our eyes that we may realize that we live in a world full of SIN, and need to be on guard against destructive influences in our lives.  SIN is real, and SIN hurts innocent peope and only Christ can free us of the power of SIN in our lives.  We cry out to you today in our need to heed the teachings of Jesus, knowing full well that without the power of your Holy Spirit, we are helpless against the evil one.  Help us, our Father, to be strong sons and daughters engaged always in the battle against injustice and evil in our world.  Make us righteous in your eyes and use us in the battle against evil.  We pray in the Name of Jesus Christ, our Lord.  Amen.

Knowledge Of Yourself

Shine into our hearts, O Loving Christ, by the pure light of the knowledge of yourself. Open the eyes of our minds to the contgemplation of your teaching.  Put into our hearts the will to follow your commandments.  Putting aside all that is worldy, may we follow a spiritual life, thinking and doing things according to your goodness.  In your blessed Name we pray.  Amen.
